Whooper swans wintering in ALTAI

Difficulty level: easy

Specificity: phototour for professionals, advanced amartures and beginners

15 January: Arrival in Barnaul, Altai. Group transfer to our hotel (200 km away). All flights from Moscow land in the morning. We will have a free afternoon to recover and rest. Living conditions are basic here.

16-20 January: After breakfast, we depart to the reserve (25 km away on beautiful frozen Siberian roads). We’ll take advantage of winter landscape photography opportunities along the way. Our wildlife shoots last for 5 hours daily, and we provide packed lunches. We return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Evenings are spent working with your mentor on photographs taken during the day.

21 January: Group transfer to airport, depart to Moscow or your next destination.

We suggest you to arrive in Altai a day ahead and overnight in Moscow/St. Petersburg). We can assist you with the booking of hotels and transfers.

It is in this unique and picturesque location that we provide excellent conditions for professional bird photography:

  • An experienced local guide-naturalist.
  • Daily microbus transfers to photography locations.
  • Specially-built viewing platform.
  • The opportunity to film from the ground (though care must be taken in the extreme conditions of the Siberian winter!).
  • Bird feeding is allowed.
  • A three-meter distance to the birds!
  • Swans in ice-holes and in a steam fog.
  • Viewing of up to two hundred birds at once! The total number of birds in the area exceeds four hundred.
  • Andrey Gudkov is your personal mentor during the entire tour.
